When the current lineup of the band came together alongside Kantner as a unit in 2012\, with many members joining years before\, he couldn’t have imagined that the band would become the road-conquering heroes they’ve been in the last few years. \nJefferson Starship’s five members describe themselves as both a “family” and a “gang\,” and that comes across in talking to them\, and in their robust live performances\, which have taken them to all 50 U.S. states.\, five continents\, and too many countries to list here (a recent tour of New Zealand was mentioned among the band’s favorites)\, drawing from a massive setlist of hit after hit.  \nIn addition to original member David Freiberg\, the band includes drummer Donny Baldwin (whose Jefferson Starship roots go back to 1982)\, keyboardist Chris Smith (who joined in 1998)\, guitarist Jude Gold (who joined in 2012)\, and singer and guitarist Cathy Richardson who joined in 2008\, after Kantner saw her tour with Big Brother and the Holding Company. \nAs Jefferson Starship approaches their 50th anniversary\, the group’s members look to the future with the word Kantner\, who unfortunately died in 2016\, used to say to them all the time: “Onward.”  \nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO!:Allowed:• Beach Blanket\, towel\, or beach chair (without a foot rest or canopy)• Small Cooler• Outside Food and Drink (no alcohol)• Re-entry with Hand Stamp• Strollers \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nProhibited:• Alcohol• Open containers of any kind• Glass containers• Bicycles• Pets (except certified service animals)• Professional Camera/Video Equipment• Umbrellas

SUMMARY:Oceanfront Concert Series: Pigeons Playing Ping Pong
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, July 24 | 7 p.m. \n24th Street ParkFREE and open to the public \n\n\n\n\n\n \nGet ready for hot summer nights with the Oceanfront Concert Series at Virginia Beach\, a free music extravaganza taking place in the parks along the iconic Virginia Beach Boardwalk. Infectious energy is an understatement. The Maryland quartet — “Scrambled Greg” Ormont (vocals\, guitar)\, Jeremy Schon (guitar\, vocals)\, Ben (bass\, vocals)\, and Alex “Gator” Petropulos (drums\, vocals)—not only squeezes the juice out of every second\, but they harness life’s energy within their hypnotic hybrid of funk\, rock and psychedelic groove. \nWith a devout audience\, affectionately known as “The Flock\,” and a trail of sold-out tours behind them\, the band takes a major step forward once again on their seventh full-length offering\, Day In Time\, set to release on April 26\, 2024. “This album is a snapshot of our band as a group and as individuals\,” notes Greg. “The title serves as a reminder that life moves fast\, so we better make the most of each day\, make each second count. 15 years as a band have flown by. We started in college and now we’re all growing up\, most of us have even become dads recently\, so we’re evolving both personally and musically\, and we’re happily embracing those changes. That said\, we still feel like kids when we’re getting wild on stage and know we always will.” \nThis forward motion has only accelerated over the years for Pigeons Playing Ping Pong. Renowned as a live tour de force\, PPPP has tallied tens of millions of streams and performed to impassioned crowds everywhere from Red Rocks Amphitheatre and The Capitol Theatre to festivals such as Bonnaroo\, Electric Forest\, Jam Cruise\, and more. Most recently\, they earned widespread acclaim for 2022’s Perspective\, a 12-track “funk-filled odyssey” as described by Relix. However\, Day In Time saw them realize another level of cohesion in the studio. “This album is the most cohesive group of songs we’ve ever had in the studio\,” says Jeremy. “On our previous albums\, there were usually older songs mixed in with our newer material. However\, all the tracks on Day In Time really represent our current writing style and where we are as a band today.” \n“With this being our seventh full-length album\, we’re more comfortable in the studio than ever\, which has given us the freedom to take some bigger swings reminiscent of our live shows.” notes Greg. In the end\, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong are certainly m \nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO!:Allowed:• Beach Blanket\, towel\, or beach chair (without a foot rest or canopy)• Small Cooler• Outside Food and Drink (no alcohol)• Re-entry with Hand Stamp• Strollers \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nProhibited:• Alcohol• Open containers of any kind• Glass containers• Bicycles• Pets (except certified service animals)• Professional Camera/Video Equipment• Umbrellas

SUMMARY:Contraband
DESCRIPTION:June 27 – July 20| Thursday\, Friday\, and Saturday at 8pm and 9pm \nLocation: 13 Street Legends Walk Stage \nFREE and open to the public \nOn May 23\, 1861\, Virginia voters ratified its secession ordinance\, officially putting it at war with the United States.  That night\, three enslaved men rowed across the Chesapeake Bay and asked for sanctuary within the walls of Fort Monroe.  The events that followed were the sparks that lit the flame of Emancipation of enslaved people across the divided country.  Contraband is a half-hour musical that tells the riveting story of those brave men and Benjamin Butler\, the lawyer/General who improvised a legal strategy that pulled the thread that unraveled slavery.  As a sequel to 1619: When Destinies Collide\, Contraband continues the remarkable story of the sacred ground of “Freedom’s Fortress”\, that\, as President Barack Obama put it\, “marks the beginning and the end of slavery in our nation”. \nFor more information about the Virginia Legends Walk Foundation and to nominate an iconic Virginian to the Virginia Legends Walk\, visit https://va-legends.net/

SUMMARY:Oceanfront Concert Series: Flipturn with The Moss
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, July 10 | 7 p.m. This series brings fans together to revel in the magic of live music against the backdrop of the Atlantic oceanfront. \nSpanning a diverse range of musical genres\, the Oceanfront Concert Series caters to various tastes\, offering an eclectic lineup that resonates with music enthusiasts of all ages.  \nJuly 10 \nFLIPTURN\nwith The Moss\n \nflipturn \nflipturn makes indie music for endless summers\, sun-streaked days\, and introspective nights. It’s a cinematic sound rooted not only in the Florida towns where the musicians first banded together as teenagers\, but also in the anthemic live show that’s taken flipturn from coast to coast. In the time since their formation\, flipturn has mushroomed to reaches far beyond the walls of the Fernandina Beach garage they first practiced in. Built up by Dillon Basse (lead vocals/rhythm guitar)\, Tristan Duncan (lead \nguitar)\, Madeline Jarman (bass)\, Mitch Fountain (synth)\, and Devon VonBalson (drums)\, the band has long prepared for the release of their debut album Shadowglow; a snapshot of a band caught halfway between youthful optimism and adult precision\, with songs that target the head as well as the heart. \nWith over 100 million streams on Spotify alone\, countless sold-out headline shows across the US\, and tours with Mt. Joy\, Rainbow Kitten Surprise\, and Wilderado\, the band has more than proven their place in the indie scene. \nThe Moss \n \nIn a musical landscape with fewer boundaries than ever before\, The Moss’s exuberant brand of alternative rock spans genres\, eras\, and even oceans. The Utah-via-Hawaii group was born on the shores of Oahu in 2015\, as teenage buddies Tyke James (vocals/guitar) and Addison Sharp (guitar) picked up a gig serenading diners at local taco trucks in between surf sessions. Naturally\, their songs took shape in the spirit of the island\, imbued with the joyfulness and breeziness of reggae culture yet cut with the introspection and communal spirit of mainland indie acts like Pinegrove and Cage the Elephant. \nBy 2018\, the duo had grown\, enlisting Willie Fowler on drums and Addison’s brother Brierton on bass\, and traded in beaches for the Great Salt Lake. They hit the stage at spots like local cornerstone Kilby Court\, live-testing their modern-indie-meets-’60s-blues with a wide-eyed exuberance that translated effortlessly into their 2019 self-released debut\, Bryology. The follow-up\, 2021’s Kentucky Derby\, brought a more aspirational\, blue-sky tilt to the foundation they’d laid on Bryology\, expanding the group’s sonic arsenal while keeping the relatable lyrical style and sun-soaked sentiment at the forefront. \nNo matter how listeners choose to interact with The Moss’s music\, the band just hopes they feel something. It’s that kinetic relationship between band and audience that makes their live performances so compelling. “No matter what we do\, we want to make sure the songs are fun to play live\,” says Fowler. “We pride ourselves on being a band people want to see live.” \nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO!:Allowed:• Beach Blanket\, towel\, or beach chair (without a foot rest or canopy)• Small Cooler• Outside Food and Drink (no alcohol)• Re-entry with Hand Stamp• Strollers \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nProhibited:• Alcohol• Open containers of any kind• Glass containers• Bicycles• Pets (except certified service animals)• Professional Camera/Video Equipment• Umbrellas

SUMMARY:Oceanfront Concert Series: Burning Spear with Kabaka Pyramid
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, June 19 | 7 p.m. \n17th Street ParkFREE and open to the public \n\n\n\n\n\n \nGet ready for hot summer nights with the Oceanfront Concert Series at Virginia Beach\, a free music extravaganza taking place in the parks along the iconic Virginia Beach Boardwalk. A true legend\, Spear’s legacy through his music is one of self-reliance and self-determination for the African diaspora. With a career spanning over six decades\, his message remains on point and his vocal delivery is as powerful as it is identifiable. \nWinston Rodney began his music career in the late 1960s\, attributing his start to a fateful encounter with Bob Marley. Both were living in the St. Ann’s parish of Jamaica. As Spear recalls\, “Bob was going to his farm. The man was moving with a donkey and some buckets and a fork\, and cutlass and plants. We just reason man-to-man and I say wherein I would like to get involved in the music business. And Bob say\, ‘All right\, just check Studio One.” It was there that Spear recorded his first two classic albums\, Burning Spear and Rocking Time. \nThroughout the 1970s and 1980s\, Burning Spear rocked the reggae world\, releasing acclaimed albums such as Social Living\, Hail H.I.M. and Resistance. His music evolved to incorporate elements of jazz\, funk\, and rock\, while maintaining its solid roots reggae foundation. \nBurning Spear has won two Grammy Awards for Best Reggae Album.  In addition to his music career\, Burning Spear is a dedicated anti-racism activist and philanthropist. He has been involved in various social and political causes throughout his career\, including the fight against apartheid in South Africa\, the struggle for independence in Zimbabwe and his campaign to raise awareness of the teachings of Marcus Garvey. \nKabaka Pyramid \n \nKabaka Pyramid is a Grammy Award Winning conscious revolutionary lyricist with a signature musical style; blending the power\, energy and melody of Reggae with the lyricism of Hip hop. \nA key pillar of the Reggae Revival movement\, Kabaka Pyramid carved his way into the Jamaican reggae scene with Rebel Music in 2011 with marquee songs like “Free From Chains” and “Warrior” featuring Protoje. His hip hop roots were evident in the lyrical style and hard-hitting beats\, laying the foundation for an ever-ascending career highlighted by the classic marquee sophomore album The Kalling produced by role model Damian “Jr Gong” Marley. \nThis chart-topping artist has developed a solid global fan-base that connects deeply with the messages in his music\, touring extensively over the past 10 years at the largest of Reggae stages around the world and headlining numerous 20+ multi-city club tours. Kabaka is well known for delivering an electrifying and entertaining live performance. \nAfter touring with Damian Marley in the US in 2017\, Kabaka would team up with the son of Bob Marley for his debut album Kontraband\, debuting number 3 in the reggae Billboard chart and number one in several countries on iTunes. Hit song “Reggae Music” became Kabaka’s first song to pass 10 million views on YouTube. \nLive performances for Rolling Stones\, BBC radio 1xtra at Maida Vale and Tuff Gong Studios\, winning the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association’s Breakthrough artist of the year and being featured on Chase and Status and Rudimental’s albums are some of the highlights of a stellar career. \nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO!:Allowed:• Beach Blanket\, towel\, or beach chair (without a foot rest or canopy)• Small Cooler• Outside Food and Drink (no alcohol)• Re-entry with Hand Stamp• Strollers \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nProhibited:• Alcohol• Open containers of any kind• Glass containers• Bicycles• Pets (except certified service animals)• Professional Camera/Video Equipment• Umbrellas

With three consecutive #1 singles in as many years\, they have more chart-toppers than any other group in country music. The group – comprised of brothers Matt Thomas (guitar/lead vocals) and Scott Thomas (drums)\, \nalong with their cousin Barry Knox (bass) and life-long friend Josh McSwain (guitar) – has accumulated more than 1 billion on-demand streams and four total No. 1 country radio singles. \nMost recently\, they topped the charts with “Girl In Mine\,” which was named Billboard \nMagazine’s 8th Most Played Country Song of 2023. That song was the follow-up to Billboard’s Most Played Country Song of 2022\, “Take My Name.” The band landed a multi-platinum smash in 2020 with “Just The Way\,” a collaboration with Blanco Brown. In September 2023\, Parmalee released For You 2\, an 18-song deluxe version of their 2021 album For You. \nThe band attributes their longevity to a decade spent playing together with no measurable success\, just the love of playing music for fans. They learned who each other truly was\, so they knew who they were standing beside when their dreams became reality in Nashville. The same is true when they go into the recording studio. The men trust their gut when choosing songs and are confident what will connect with their fan base. With determination as strong as it was when they first started playing together and 18 songs ready to release to the world\, Parmalee is poised to take the next steps in their sky-rocketing career. They have no regrets. “We just love to play\,” Josh said. “We love to tour. We love the live connection. Our dream was just to play music for a living. The premier New Year’s Eve celebration in Virginia Beach kicks off with family fun at 6:00 p.m. ET on Sunday\, December 31\, 2023\, at Virginia Beach Town Center. Music will begin at 8:00 p.m. \nCreated by the Central Business District Association\, Last Night on the Town (LNOTT) is now in its tenth year at Virginia Beach Town Center and is a FREE celebration suitable for the entire family. VIP tickets are on sale now. For more details and ticket information\, go to www.lastnightonthetown.com. \nThe Movement has been winning the hearts and minds of alternative reggae fans since their inception in Columbia\, SC in 2003. Drawing inspiration from Sublime\, 311\, Slightly Stoopid\, and John Brown’s Body\, they’ve made a name for themselves as reggae shapeshifters with a foundation of heavy drum and bass. Today\, the band consists of founding member\, lead vocalist\, and guitarist Joshua Swain; bassist Jason Schmidt; drummer Gary Jackson; and keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist Matt Goodwin. Their seventh studio album\, Ways Of The World (2019) debuted at #1 in the Billboard Reggae Chart and remained in the Billboard Reggae Top 10 for more than 40 consecutive weeks. The band’s eighth studio album\, Always With Me\, was released July 29\, 2022 on the band’s R4RE Records imprint. It explores new musical territory while staying true to their champion sound. Featuring collaborations from their influencers-turned-peers\, Slightly Stoopid\, Iration\, and Clinton Fearon\, and contemporaries HIRIE and Soom T\, for The Movement\, the only path is forward\, pushing the boundaries and the future of reggae. \nFronted by David Wimbish\, The Collection hails from North Carolina. Impressively\, the band logged thousands of miles on the road\, generated millions of streams\, and earned praise from American Songwriter\, Glide\, Parade\, and more all before signing to Nettwerk. With three full-length releases\, three Eps\, and a number of singles in their repertoire\, the band’s extensive catalog is complimented by their robust and raucous live show that has built a devout fanbase. The Collection has toured with The Oh Hellos\, RIPE\, Tall Heights\, and Nettwerk’s own Sammy Rae & The Friends. \nThe Ries Brothers (pronounced “Rees”)\, a duo from St. Petersburg\, FL\, blend rock\, blues\, jam\, funk\, and reggae into a soulful-sophisticated sound. Older brother Charlie (27) sings lead vocals while simultaneously playing drums and keyboard bass\, giving the band its unique and full sound. Younger brother Kevin Jordan (24) completes the band’s “sonic creativity” on guitar\, ukulele\, and melodica and provides background vocals. The band started playing the Florida bar circuit as young teenagers where they were discovered by the band Chicago and taken out on two regional tours\, prompting them to leave school and focus on music full time.

SUMMARY:Oceanfront Concert Series: ACE FREHLEY
DESCRIPTION:ACE FREHLEYwith special guest Anthony Rosano and the Conqueroos Wednesday\, August 16 | 7 pm17th Street ParkFREE and open to the public \n\n\n\nHere are a few things you probably know about Ace Frehley: He’s the original lead guitarist for KISS (which he co-founded in 1973). He was also their best—his song-within-the-song guitar solos are as much a part of KISS as the band’s seven-inch platform boots. And he’s always been the coolest member of KISS—rock ’n’ roll swagger\, laid-back\, mysterious—just ask Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine\, or Naoko Yamano of Shonen Knife\, or Abbath of Immortal. Hell\, even people who don’t like KISS still love Ace. \nWhat you may not know is that Ace Frehley has not been a member of KISS since 2002\, when he left his second tenure with the band (there’s a “spaceman” currently playing leads for the band\, but it ain’t Ace). In his time away from KISS (1983-1996\, and 2002-present)\, Frehley has put together the most successful solo career of any member—current or former. \n\n\n\nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO!:Allowed:• Beach Blanket\, towel\, or beach chair (without a foot rest or canopy)• Small Cooler• Outside Food and Drink (no alcohol)• Re-entry with Hand Stamp• Strollers \nProhibited:• Alcohol• Open containers of any kind• Glass containers• Bicycles• Pets (except certified service animals)• Professional Camera/Video Equipment• Umbrellas \n\n\n\nThank you to our Sponsors!

SUMMARY:Oceanfront Concert Series: MOON TAXI
DESCRIPTION:MOON TAXIwith special guest The Stews \nWednesday\, August 9 | 7pm24th Street ParkFREE and open to the public \n\n\n\nSince forming in 2006\, Moon Taxi have brought their genre-bending musicality to a boldly adventurous body of work\, all while taking their live show to leading festivals across the country and sold-out runs at such iconic venues as the Ryman Auditorium. In a dynamic new era for the Nashville-based band—vocalist/guitarist Trevor Terndrup\, lead guitarist Spencer Thomson\, bassist Tommy Putnam\, keyboardist Wes Bailey\, and drummer Tyler Ritter—their fifth full-length Silver Dream broadens their sonic palette even further\, exploring everything from folk to soul to inventively crafted electronic pop. But while the album embodies an endlessly forward-thinking sound\, its lyrics offer a thoughtful reflection on days gone by.

SUMMARY:Oceanfront Concert Series: SOCCER MOMMY
DESCRIPTION:SOCCER MOMMYwith special guest Angelica GarciaWednesday\, July 26 | 7 pm17th Street ParkFREE and open to the public \n\n\n\nSometimes\, Forever\, the immersive and compulsively replayable new Soccer Mommy full-length\, cements Sophie Allison’s status as one of the most gifted songwriters making rock music right now. Packed with clever nods to synth-filled subgenres like new wave and goth\, the album finds Sophie broadening the borders of her aesthetic without abandoning the unsparing lyricism and addictive melodies that make Soccer Mommy songs so easy to obsess over. Sometimes\, Forever is the 24-year-old’s boldest and most aesthetically adventurous work\, a mesmerizing collection that feels both informed by the past and explicitly of the moment. It’s a fresh peek into the mind of an artist who synthesizes everything — retro sounds\, personal tumult\, the relatable disorder of modern life — into original music that feels built to last a long time. Maybe even forever. \n\n\n\nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO!:Allowed:• Beach Blanket\, towel\, or beach chair (without a foot rest or canopy)• Small Cooler• Outside Food and Drink (no alcohol)• Re-entry with Hand Stamp• Strollers \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nProhibited:• Alcohol• Open containers of any kind• Glass containers• Bicycles• Pets (except certified service animals)• Professional Camera/Video Equipment• Umbrellas \n\n\n\nThank you to our Sponsors!
