This series brings fans together to revel in the magic of live music against the backdrop of the Atlantic oceanfront. \nSpanning a diverse range of musical genres\, the Oceanfront Concert Series caters to various tastes\, offering an eclectic lineup that resonates with music enthusiasts of all ages.  \nJuly 10 \nFLIPTURN\nwith The Moss\n \nflipturn \nflipturn makes indie music for endless summers\, sun-streaked days\, and introspective nights. It’s a cinematic sound rooted not only in the Florida towns where the musicians first banded together as teenagers\, but also in the anthemic live show that’s taken flipturn from coast to coast. In the time since their formation\, flipturn has mushroomed to reaches far beyond the walls of the Fernandina Beach garage they first practiced in. Built up by Dillon Basse (lead vocals/rhythm guitar)\, Tristan Duncan (lead \nguitar)\, Madeline Jarman (bass)\, Mitch Fountain (synth)\, and Devon VonBalson (drums)\, the band has long prepared for the release of their debut album Shadowglow; a snapshot of a band caught halfway between youthful optimism and adult precision\, with songs that target the head as well as the heart. \nWith over 100 million streams on Spotify alone\, countless sold-out headline shows across the US\, and tours with Mt. Joy\, Rainbow Kitten Surprise\, and Wilderado\, the band has more than proven their place in the indie scene. \nThe Moss \n \nIn a musical landscape with fewer boundaries than ever before\, The Moss’s exuberant brand of alternative rock spans genres\, eras\, and even oceans. The Utah-via-Hawaii group was born on the shores of Oahu in 2015\, as teenage buddies Tyke James (vocals/guitar) and Addison Sharp (guitar) picked up a gig serenading diners at local taco trucks in between surf sessions. Naturally\, their songs took shape in the spirit of the island\, imbued with the joyfulness and breeziness of reggae culture yet cut with the introspection and communal spirit of mainland indie acts like Pinegrove and Cage the Elephant. \nBy 2018\, the duo had grown\, enlisting Willie Fowler on drums and Addison’s brother Brierton on bass\, and traded in beaches for the Great Salt Lake. They hit the stage at spots like local cornerstone Kilby Court\, live-testing their modern-indie-meets-’60s-blues with a wide-eyed exuberance that translated effortlessly into their 2019 self-released debut\, Bryology. The follow-up\, 2021’s Kentucky Derby\, brought a more aspirational\, blue-sky tilt to the foundation they’d laid on Bryology\, expanding the group’s sonic arsenal while keeping the relatable lyrical style and sun-soaked sentiment at the forefront. \nNo matter how listeners choose to interact with The Moss’s music\, the band just hopes they feel something. It’s that kinetic relationship between band and audience that makes their live performances so compelling. “No matter what we do\, we want to make sure the songs are fun to play live\,” says Fowler. “We pride ourselves on being a band people want to see live.” \nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO!:Allowed:• Beach Blanket\, towel\, or beach chair (without a foot rest or canopy)• Small Cooler• Outside Food and Drink (no alcohol)• Re-entry with Hand Stamp• Strollers \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nProhibited:• Alcohol• Open containers of any kind• Glass containers• Bicycles• Pets (except certified service animals)• Professional Camera/Video Equipment• Umbrellas

PAUL & THE BROKEN BONES\nwith Big Forest Fire\n \nSt. Paul & The Broken Bones \nFounded in Birmingham\, Alabama in 2011\, St. Paul & the Broken Bones consists of Paul Janeway (vocals)\, Jesse Phillips (bass)\, Browan Lollar (guitar)\, Kevin Leon (drums)\, Al Gamble (keyboards)\, Allen Branstetter (trumpet)\, Chad Fisher (trombone)\, and Amari Ansari (saxophone). The eight-piece ensemble burst into the world with their 2014 debut Half the City\, establishing a sound that quickly became a calling card and landing the band a slew of major festivals including Lollapalooza\, Coachella and Glastonbury. Critical praise from The New York Times\, Rolling Stone\, SPIN and NPR followed\, leading to shared stages with some of the world’s biggest artists\, Elton John and The Rolling Stones among them. \nThe group has continued to expand their sound with every record\, branching out well beyond old-school soul into sleek summertime funk and classic disco on albums like 2018’s Young Sick Camellia. Their forthcoming LP\, Angels In Science Fiction\, stretches their limbs further afield\, building on the shadowy psychedelia and intricate\, experimental R&B of 2022’s The Alien Coast. \n\nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO!:Allowed:• Beach Blanket\, towel\, or beach chair (without a foot rest or canopy)• Small Cooler• Outside Food and Drink (no alcohol)• Re-entry with Hand Stamp• Strollers \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nProhibited:• Alcohol• Open containers of any kind• Glass containers• Bicycles• Pets (except certified service animals)• Professional Camera/Video Equipment• Umbrellas

Infectious energy is an understatement. The Maryland quartet — “Scrambled Greg” Ormont (vocals\, guitar)\, Jeremy Schon (guitar\, vocals)\, Ben (bass\, vocals)\, and Alex “Gator” Petropulos (drums\, vocals)—not only squeezes the juice out of every second\, but they harness life’s energy within their hypnotic hybrid of funk\, rock and psychedelic groove. \nWith a devout audience\, affectionately known as “The Flock\,” and a trail of sold-out tours behind them\, the band takes a major step forward once again on their seventh full-length offering\, Day In Time\, set to release on April 26\, 2024. “This album is a snapshot of our band as a group and as individuals\,” notes Greg. “The title serves as a reminder that life moves fast\, so we better make the most of each day\, make each second count. 15 years as a band have flown by. We started in college and now we’re all growing up\, most of us have even become dads recently\, so we’re evolving both personally and musically\, and we’re happily embracing those changes. That said\, we still feel like kids when we’re getting wild on stage and know we always will.” \nThis forward motion has only accelerated over the years for Pigeons Playing Ping Pong. Renowned as a live tour de force\, PPPP has tallied tens of millions of streams and performed to impassioned crowds everywhere from Red Rocks Amphitheatre and The Capitol Theatre to festivals such as Bonnaroo\, Electric Forest\, Jam Cruise\, and more. Most recently\, they earned widespread acclaim for 2022’s Perspective\, a 12-track “funk-filled odyssey” as described by Relix. However\, Day In Time saw them realize another level of cohesion in the studio. “This album is the most cohesive group of songs we’ve ever had in the studio\,” says Jeremy. “On our previous albums\, there were usually older songs mixed in with our newer material. However\, all the tracks on Day In Time really represent our current writing style and where we are as a band today.” \n“With this being our seventh full-length album\, we’re more comfortable in the studio than ever\, which has given us the freedom to take some bigger swings reminiscent of our live shows.” notes Greg. In the end\, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong are certainly m \nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO!:Allowed:• Beach Blanket\, towel\, or beach chair (without a foot rest or canopy)• Small Cooler• Outside Food and Drink (no alcohol)• Re-entry with Hand Stamp• Strollers \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nProhibited:• Alcohol• Open containers of any kind• Glass containers• Bicycles• Pets (except certified service animals)• Professional Camera/Video Equipment• Umbrellas

SUMMARY:Oceanfront Concert Series: Jefferson Starship with Optimistic Cynics
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, July 31 | 7 p.m. \n17th Street ParkFREE and open to the public \n\n\n\n\n\n \nGet ready for hot summer nights with the Oceanfront Concert Series at Virginia Beach\, a free music extravaganza taking place in the Parks along the iconic Virginia Beach Boardwalk. \nJuly 31 \nJEFFERSON STARSHIP\nwith Optimistic Cynics\n \nJefferson Starship \nWhen founding member Paul Kantner formed Jefferson Starship in the ’70s\, he envisioned the band as a cast of musical adventurers\, contributing to his epic concept albums and eventual deep catalog of rock classics. When the current lineup of the band came together alongside Kantner as a unit in 2012\, with many members joining years before\, he couldn’t have imagined that the band would become the road-conquering heroes they’ve been in the last few years. \nJefferson Starship’s five members describe themselves as both a “family” and a “gang\,” and that comes across in talking to them\, and in their robust live performances\, which have taken them to all 50 U.S. states.\, five continents\, and too many countries to list here (a recent tour of New Zealand was mentioned among the band’s favorites)\, drawing from a massive setlist of hit after hit.  \nIn addition to original member David Freiberg\, the band includes drummer Donny Baldwin (whose Jefferson Starship roots go back to 1982)\, keyboardist Chris Smith (who joined in 1998)\, guitarist Jude Gold (who joined in 2012)\, and singer and guitarist Cathy Richardson who joined in 2008\, after Kantner saw her tour with Big Brother and the Holding Company. \nAs Jefferson Starship approaches their 50th anniversary\, the group’s members look to the future with the word Kantner\, who unfortunately died in 2016\, used to say to them all the time: “Onward.”  \nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO!:Allowed:• Beach Blanket\, towel\, or beach chair (without a foot rest or canopy)• Small Cooler• Outside Food and Drink (no alcohol)• Re-entry with Hand Stamp• Strollers \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nProhibited:• Alcohol• Open containers of any kind• Glass containers• Bicycles• Pets (except certified service animals)• Professional Camera/Video Equipment• Umbrellas
