An emotional tribute to his father who’d encouraged him to audition for American Idol but passed away before he made it in front of the judges\, the performance instantly became a viral sensation. The quiet yet powerful maturity in this 18-year-old Samoan\, Tongan from Hawaii’s voice\, is unparalleled. An old soul\, his beautiful rasp\, with a light island influence permeates every note in every song he sings\, invariably taking listeners on an emotional journey. \nAlthough Iam himself is rarely serious\, preferring to approach life with a laugh and a joke\, his musical taste and styling shows a depth of range far beyond his years. In his current single\, “I’ll Be Seeing You”\, Iam gorgeously laments about the loss of his father. His formidable vocal ability brings a yearning to those moments when\, although you’ve lost someone\, you realize they are never truly gone; you see them everywhere you look. Iam said\, “This song is very beautiful\, and it resonates with me\, it means a lot to me. It is about my father and if you think about it\, this song talks about ‘I’ll be seeing you wherever I go’ because when a loved one passes away you are going to remember them in everyday life”. \nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO!:Allowed:• Beach Blanket\, towel\, or beach chair (without a foot rest or canopy)• Small Cooler• Outside Food and Drink (no alcohol)• Re-entry with Hand Stamp• Strollers \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nProhibited:• Alcohol• Open containers of any kind• Glass containers• Bicycles• Pets (except certified service animals)• Professional Camera/Video Equipment• Umbrellas

SUMMARY:Oceanfront Concert Series: Digable Planets
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, September 18 | 7 p.m. \n24th Street ParkFREE and open to the public \nPLEASE NOTE: THIS SHOW HAS BEEN MOVED TO 24TH STREET PARK AT THE VIRGINIA BEACH OCEANFRONT DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS!\n\n\n\n\n\n \nGet ready for hot summer nights with the Oceanfront Concert Series at Virginia Beach\, a free music extravaganza taking place in the parks along the iconic Virginia Beach Boardwalk. This series brings fans together to revel in the magic of live music against the backdrop of the Atlantic oceanfront. \nSpanning a diverse range of musical genres\, the Oceanfront Concert Series caters to various tastes\, offering an eclectic lineup that resonates with music enthusiasts of all ages.  \nSeptember 18 \nDIGABLE PLANETS\nwith 5Starr\n \nDigable Planets burst onto the music scene in 1993 with their Grammy-winning single\, “Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)”. Made up of Ishmael Butler (“Butterfly”)\, Craig Irving (“Doodlebug”) and Mary Ann Vieira (“Ladybug Mecca”)\, the trio carved out a unique style of jazz-informed Hip Hop. Shortly after\, Digable Planets followed up with their debut album\, Reachin’ (A New Refutation of Time And Space)\, an ambitious offering that Pitchfork praised as “a world within a world\, complete with its own language and monuments.” The group celebrated the 30th Anniversary of Reachin’ last year. \nDigable Planets immediately followed up with Blowout Comb\, a bold and colorful meditation on Black liberation. While the album did not initially reach the immediate commercial successes of Reachin’\, the album has aged beautifully\, influencing future generations of Hip Hop heads\, young jazz musicians and Afrofuturists. The trio spent the 2000s establishing their own individual creative voices with Butler’s Cherrywine and Shabazz Palaces projects\, Mecca’s work with BROOKZILL! and Irving as “Cee Knowledge” leading Cee Knowledge & The Cosmic Funk Orchestra. In 2015\, the group embarked upon a string of wildly successful live shows and has been very active as a tight touring unit ever since. In 2017\, they released Digable Planets Live\, a live album that showcases many gems from the group’s catalog as well as the trio’s skill at rocking the crowd with a live band. A pioneering act that continues to cast a wide-ranging\, genre-bending influence\, Digable Planets have left an indelible mark on music. More than 30 years after their debut\, their music still shines\, and the iconic group continues to bring their celebrated stage show to excited crowds around the world. \nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO!:Allowed:• Beach Blanket\, towel\, or beach chair (without a foot rest or canopy)• Small Cooler• Outside Food and Drink (no alcohol)• Re-entry with Hand Stamp• Strollers \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nProhibited:• Alcohol• Open containers of any kind• Glass containers• Bicycles• Pets (except certified service animals)• Professional Camera/Video Equipment• Umbrellas

SUMMARY:Oceanfront Concert Series: Guster
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, September 25 | 7 p.m. \n24th Street ParkFREE and open to the public \n\n\n\n\n\n \nGet ready for hot summer nights with the Oceanfront Concert Series at Virginia Beach\, a free music extravaganza taking place in the parks along the iconic Virginia Beach Boardwalk. \nSeptember 25 \nGUSTER\nwith Mikaela Davis\n \nNot long before the making of their new album Ooh La La\, Guster celebrated three decades together as a band — a journey that’s included landing a series of hits on the Billboard charts\, working with luminaries like Steve Lillywhite and Richard Swift\, launching their own music festival\, and amassing an ardent fanbase partly on the strength of their relentless touring and deeply communal live show. But despite reaching a milestone few musical acts ever come close to attaining\, Guster’s ninth studio LP reveals a band fully in touch with the voracious creative energy that first inspired their formation. A major leap forward for lead vocalist Ryan Miller\, guitarist Adam Gardner\, drummer Brian Rosenworcel\, and multi-instrumentalist Luke Reynolds\, Ooh La La ultimately matches that wide-eyed spirit with a newly heightened sense of confidence\, conviction\, and commitment to the raw sincerity that’s made them so beloved. \nOoh La La endlessly radiates an undeniable warmth\, even as its songs delve into the more daunting aspects of living in modern times. “One of Josh’s great strengths is finding the heart of the song\, which felt right for the world we live in\,” says Rosenworcel. “When I listen back to the album now it feels like there’s depth everywhere — there’s not a moment where we strike a chord that isn’t meaningful to us. Nobody was going to accept a song that didn’t hit at a certain level\, and it feels good to still have that passion more than 30 years into our career.” \n“One thing we’ve continually done as a band is acknowledge what’s going on in our world but still bring some positivity to the music\,” says Gardner. “We’re always going to be real about what’s happening\, but we still want to leave people with a feeling of hope.” \nWhile their audience has grown exponentially since Guster got their start playing in dorm rooms at Tufts University in 1991\, they’ve sustained an extraordinarily strong connection with their fanbase over the years. “One of the main reasons we’re still a band is the fans who’ve come to see us for years\, the people who show us the tattoos they’ve gotten with our lyrics\,” Miller adds. “It inspires us to stay creative and stay fearless\, instead of just making the same record over and over. Everything we do is in service of that connection\, and at this point I’d say we’re definitely lifers.” \nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO!:Allowed:• Beach Blanket\, towel\, or beach chair (without a foot rest or canopy)• Small Cooler• Outside Food and Drink (no alcohol)• Re-entry with Hand Stamp• Strollers \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nProhibited:• Alcohol• Open containers of any kind• Glass containers• Bicycles• Pets (except certified service animals)• Professional Camera/Video Equipment• Umbrellas
