And now\, just 12 years\nlater\, another “First Landing” was about to take place; one marked with pain and\ntriumph. And one that would forever change the face of this still-infant nation.\n1619 tells the compelling story of the native Africans who first set foot on\nAmerican soil. This festival is rain or shine. \nThis popular music genre draws influence from R&B\, jazz\, gospel\, and blues. Funk artists like James Brown and George Clinton (the leader of Parliament-Funkadelic) inspired many musicians and helped spawn other genres like disco and hip hop. \n \n  \n\n  \n  \nGeneral admission to the Virginia Beach Funk Fest Beach Party is free\, but capacity is limited. \nFor our guests desiring a closer\, more comfortable viewing experience\, we offer a ticketed Preferred Viewing section. \nThe Preferred Viewing ticket is a two-day pass providing a closer viewing area (patrons bring their own beach chairs)\, dedicated portable restrooms\, and a cash bar. Preferred Viewing admission is guaranteed\, while general admission is limited and strictly first-come\, first-served. \nEvery patron must have a ticket. \nThis year’s festival will be held on a different site on the beach at 24th Street.
