NEW OCEANFRONT CONCERT SERIES FEATURES NATIONAL BANDS IN AUGUST 2021
Free Shows at Oceanfront Parks

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.— The City Of Virginia Beach and Beach Events presents The New Oceanfront Concert Series with over a dozen national recording artists this summer. The free shows will take place at 17th or 24th Street parks at the Oceanfront.

August acts confirmed for the series include:
Trevor Hall with Cas Haley – August 4 – 24th Street Park
• Soul Asylum with Juliana Hatfield– August 11 – 17th Street Park
• Pablo Cruise with Firefall– August 18 – 24th Street Park
• Matt Stell with Tim Montana – August 25 – 17th Street Park

Trevor Hall – Raised on an island in South Carolina, singer/songwriter Trevor Hall realized at a young age that music was more than just a passion – it was his life’s art. At sixteen, he recorded his first album. Shortly after, Hall left South Carolina for Idyllwild Arts Academy in California where he studied classical guitar and was introduced to the practices of yoga and meditation, which would greatly influence his life and his music.

Hall’s music, a blend of roots and folk music with touches of electronic elements, is imbued with a deep love of Eastern Mysticism. This powerful symbiosis fostered a deep connectivity with his growing fan base and Trevor quickly matured into a leader of the burgeoning conscious musical community.

Soul Asylum Soul – Soul Asylum initially formed in the early ’80s under the name Loud Fast Rules when vocalist/guitarist Dave Pirner was still in high school with friends Dan Murphy and Karl Mueller, and became part of the celebrated Minneapolis local music scene alongside fellow indie bands the Replacements and Hüsker Dü. This success led to the band entering the major-label mainstream with 1988’s Hang Time and its 1990 follow-up, And the Horse They Rode In On, before achieving a commercial breakthrough with 1992’s triple-platinum Grave Dancers Union.

In March of 2020, the band ended their best-selling tour in 15 years, The Dead Letter Tour, with support from Local H. They recently released an acoustic EP of songs from HUAW titled, Born Free. With more than 100 songs performed during weekly livestream sessions, the band are anticipating to be back on the road in 2021.

Pablo Cruise – From 1975 to 1985 the band toured the United States, Canada and Japan extensively, welcoming fans to “Climb Aboard The Good Ship Pablo Cruise.” Reaching the top 10 with multiple mega hits the band went on to sell several million albums and singles.

In 2005 a reunited Pablo Cruise picked up where they left off and today the band performs all over the U.S. and Canada and they’re enjoying it more than ever.  Since getting back together, they have released two live CD’s and a DVD, all through Sony Music, documenting their exceptional live shows

“Going out and playing shows these days gives us the opportunity to not only pay tribute to our timeless repertoire, it gives us a chance to see old friends and fans from back in the day, as well as, gaining a whole new audience!” Today Pablo Cruise is bringing more energy and excitement to the stage than ever before. The band has never sounded better!

Matt Stell – With a style that bridges contemporary country and Americana but dips into rock and blues, singer/songwriter Matt Stell began releasing music in the early 2010s after teaching himself guitar while in college. He had a breakthrough with the streaming hit “Prayed for You” in 2018.

Stell released the album A River Through It on 124 Records in 2013, following it with the single “Country Love Song” in 2015. In the meantime, he opened shows for headliners including Luke Bryan and Eric Church. An offer from Wide Open Music in Nashville, Tennessee led to the release of the single “Prayed for You” and the EP “Everywhere But On” in 2019. “Prayed for You” went viral, amassing over ten million streams across platforms before the end of the year. The album’s title track also garnered attention, charting on the Billboard Hot 100. Another EP, “Better Than That,” arrived in October 2020 and included the song “Look at Me Now.”

All Oceanfront Concert Series shows will start with an opening act at 7:00pm.  Park gates will open 30 minutes before showtime.

Labor Day Weekend Oceanfront Concert Series will include multiple concerts Friday-Sunday with national headliners as well as top local and regional bands.  All shows will be free to the public.

The Oceanfront Concert Series is a reimagined American Music Festival (AMF) spread over the entire season rather than just over Labor Day Weekend.

“The Oceanfront Concert Series is a vehicle for bringing top talent representing many genres of music to our visitors at the Virginia Beach Resort as well as to residents. The setting is beautiful, and best of all, the concerts are free!”

More concerts will be announced soon for Labor Day Weekend.
